An elevated night race in the heart of the Lake District – Edgar’s ideal F3 event

We hand the reigns over to Trident Racing’s Jonny Edgar who crafts a brand-new addition to the Formula 3 calendar.

Choosing everything from the country, to the celebrity that he would invite, the British Red Bull junior creates a new race weekend.

__WHERE WOULD THE RACE BE HELD? __

The north of England because it’s close to where I live and there aren’t many tracks in that area. Somewhere in the Lake District, which admittedly wouldn’t be the most practical, but the views would be good. It would be a bit like the Red Bull Ring, so good for photos, but more than anything, it would be close to where my home is.

WHEN WOULD YOU HOLD THE RACE?

Being in the UK, it would have to be in the summer or else it would just be raining. I'd want it to be a dry race if possible

DAY OR NIGHT?

A night race, so that it is a little different. I have never raced at night before, the closest I came was probably Race 2 in Spa last year.

HOW WOULD THE TRACK BE LAID OUT?

Very much a traditional circuit. For a start, I would want there to be quite a bit of elevation in the track, I wouldn't want it to be flat. Tracks are always more exciting when there is a bit of up and down, like at Spa, Zandvoort, or the Red Bull Ring. I don't know how it would all fit together, but I would have a real mix of everything.

To start with, maybe a third gear corner with a bit of a braking zone, nothing too slow where there would be crashes, but a bit of a hairpin, fairly open. Followed by Turns 2 and 3 from Zandvoort, with the banking.

Next up, from Oschersleben, which is a track that I raced at in ADAC F4, I would use Turns 1 and 2, and then Turns 8, 9 and 10 as well - I really enjoy that track. Turn 1 from the Red Bull Ring would be in there as well, with the elevation where the car goes light over the apex, as that is an interesting one.

The last two corners at the Red Bull Ring would add a bit more high-speed into the circuit, and finally, the second chicane from Monza for some slow speed. There would need to be a few more corners in there to tie it all together, but those are the corners that I would want, which would make it a real mixture of everything.

Obviously one or two long-straights for overtaking, but not too many, so that you don't get a DRS train of 20 cars.

WHAT CELEBRITIES WOULD ATTEND?

A lot of English ex-F1 drivers, a few World Champions, just as many drivers as possible.
