Reigning Champions Trident have announced that British racer Jonny Edgar will join the team for the 2022 campaign, with the Red Bull junior making the move from Carlin.

The 17-year-old finished 18th with 23-points for Carlin in his rookie season of Formula 3, scoring five top-10 finishes in total.

The Briton first linked up with his new team at post-season testing in Valencia and impressed suitably to earn a deal with the Italians, ending the afternoon session of Day 3 in third.

“I am very happy to be able to race for Trident Motorsport in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship,” said Edgar. “They’re an extremely professional team that will surely give me the possibility to compete in the top positions in the 2022 championship.”

A member of the Red Bull Junior Team, Edgar joins with three years’ of single-seater experience, which includes the 2020 ADAC Formula 4 title. Edgar won the German Championship with five poles and 11 podiums, including six wins.

Trident Team Owner Maurizio Salvadori added: “Jonny Edgar is a driver that we followed very closely last year in the Formula 3 Championship. Although he did not receive particular results, the English driver impressed us thanks to his qualities.

“I am therefore very happy that Jonny will. be part of the Trident Team lineup in 2022. I am sure that he will compete in a top championship and will be a real protagonist of the season.

“Edgar hit the track in the Trident car in the post-season test held last November in Valencia where we were able to appreciate his talent at the wheel, his mature behaviour and his impeccable professionalism.”
