It is not just Ugo Ugochukwu’s performances in the car that catch the eye, but it is also his helmet design that causes people to take notice.

From a young age, the PREMA Racing driver has stuck with the same silver painted lid and has not once changed. Recently, he explained how that came about and why, despite the efforts of many to give him a new design, he has stayed with the same helmet.

“To be honest, there's not much to it, this was just the colour of my helmet the first few times I went into a car, and I really liked it, so I decided to stick with it the whole way.

“I think it gives me a bit of a unique look compared to the others, that's really how this design came about.

“I'm not quite sure about how the silver came about though, it must have caught my eye. The two options that are usually around are white and black, so the silver was more appealing.

“I've been offered to get a painted helmet many, many times, but I've never given in, I've always stuck with the same. Maybe one day I'll do a special one, but for now I just want to keep this.

“I think at this point in my career if I change helmet right now, it would be a bit of a change because everyone is so used to me being with this helmet. So I just want to keep it for as long as I can.

“I've never changed it, always the same colour since I was like six or seven years old. At the start of the year, to be honest, Bell always asks if I want to change it up a little bit, but the answer is always no. ‘Same helmet, same everything, just give me a new one’.

“I mean if it's a one-off helmet, then I would probably do it, still keeping a lot of the silver, maybe adding something a little bit new, but I still think I would keep the base of the design.

So if there was a New York Grand Prix, I'd probably incorporate some random stuff, nothing too serious, have some skyscrapers here, statue of liberty at the back, but still keeping the silver though.
