Van Amersfoort Racing’s Franco Colapinto says that he was pleased with his Sprint Race performance despite missing out on a points finish at Silverstone. The Argentine made up places from 17th on the grid to end up 13th by the chequered flag.

Although his points tally didn’t increase as a result of his efforts, Colapinto said that he was more than content with his pace in the Sprint as one of the biggest gainers on the grid in terms of positional gain.

“It was a really good race, some really good overtakes as well. Of course, we learned some things with the car that we’ll try for tomorrow, so it was positive. We were trying to win a few positions to see if we could get some points but unfortunately, we couldn’t. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”

Colapinto will be starting from the same position tomorrow in the Feature Race but now has the overtaking experience under his belt. The VAR driver says that while the end of the Hangar Straight into Stowe was the best overtaking opportunity, he hopes the team can sort its traction issues out to open up other overtaking avenues.

“The end of the Hangar Straight was the best place to pass, at least for us because we were not really having good traction out of Turn 4, so the best place was into Stowe. Hopefully tomorrow things get a little bit better.

“It could be a little bit better tomorrow. Especially with what we are working on with the car. We’ll see if we can improve a little bit on that side to get a few points from this weekend, that will be important.

“We’ve been struggling a little bit with the tyres, with the rears mostly but we’ll be trying to improve for tomorrow. We’re starting a little way in the back, but I think we can do something good tomorrow. We just have to maximise everything and see where we’re at."
