Interview
Mattia Colnaghi will be racing with MP Motorsport for the third consecutive season in his single seater career, as the Italian driver prepares to step up to Formula 3 with the team in 2026.
The 17-year-old has made a fast start to his career, winning the 2024 Spanish F4 Championship, and was most recently crowned the 2025 Eurocup-3 Champion.
All of these titles were won in an MP car, and as Colnaghi prepares to graduate to F3, he expressed how delighted he is to be doing so with the Dutch team, now with the support of Red Bull.

“Obviously, it's great to be here,” said Colnaghi on joining the F3 grid. “It’s great to be in a prestigious team like MP Motorsport, and with the support of the Red Bull Junior team. I feel like I have the opportunity of a lifetime.
“I have been guided by them to success, so I'm really excited to get the season underway next year. I already did Spanish F4 with them, it was a great season with them, racking up six wins and 12 podiums, and bringing home the title.
“This year we have won the Championship Standings with five wins, and to be honest I cannot really complain. The team has been by my side the whole time, and it's been great.”
Colnaghi was speaking prior to the post-season tests, with the Italian ending up with the fastest time on the last day of running on home soil in Imola.
But before jumping into the car, Colnaghi revealed that he had watched many of the F3 races from the 2025 campaign to prepare himself for the challenge.
“I've watched most F3 races this year to try to learn as much as possible for next year,” said Colnaghi. “The racing looks really good, the car is built to race and for side-by-side battles.

“So I look forward to that, and obviously a lot of sim prep, trying to simulate as much as possible the real car, the real tyres, to get the driving style right.”
Colnaghi is currently one of four Italian drivers set to race in F3 in 2025 – alongside Nicola Lacorte, Brando Badoer and Matteo de Palo.
He hopes that he can fly the banner for Italy this year, by following the footsteps of the likes of 2024 Champion Leonardo Fornaroli, the runner-up that season, Gabriele Minì and Formula 1 rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
“Honestly, with Gabriele, Leo and Kimi, they are all great inspirations to me,” said Colnaghi. “How they have moved up the ranks, and won Championships, and last year in F3, Leo and Gabriele were first and second, so they are big inspirations to me.
“I'm really excited to be part of that group next year, and hopefully I can match the results that they have been doing.”
Colnaghi will be racing alongside two experienced drivers in 2026, with Alessandro Giusti and Tuukka Taponen, two drivers who had strong rookie seasons this year.
