Sami Meguetounif has had his shot at designing a dream race weekend. The Trident driver picked Spa as the venue, but wanted to make a change to the layout in order to make the circuit even more flowing.
Here is what the Frenchman came up with.
WHERE WOULD YOU STAGE THE RACE?
“I would go for Spa for many reasons. I like the track and I think the perfect weekend is Pole Position, win the Feature Race, then fight for good points in the Sprint. If I say anything else, then it would make no sense.”
WHAT WOULD THE TRACK LOOK LIKE?
“I would change the last chicane. The track is very nice, but the last chicane isn’t so satisfying to drive. I would change it and put a flat-out straight line there maybe instead. Or go back to the old bus stop. The track goes uphill there which makes the car very unstable in between the two corners. Then there’s the track limits on the exit of the last chicane so it makes it a bit unsatisfying compared to the rest of the track.”
DAY OR NIGHT RACE?
“Why not have it as a night race. If we can get some lights, then we’ll do it as a night race. It would be epic.”
WET OR DRY RACE?
“Dry. I love to drive in the wet, but I’d like to have a normal race in the dry.”
WHAT TYRES WOULD YOU BRING?
“Mediums. It’s a good compromise between Qualifying and degradation in the races.”
WHO WOULD YOU INVITE AS YOUR GUESTS?
“Probably my friends and family. Just to share the moment with them if it’s a win. I’m not such a celeb fanatic or anything like that. I want to have the moment with those in my family.”
WHICH ARTISTS WOULD PLAY MUSIC ACROSS THE WEEKEND?
“Let’s go with something like house music we can have as a party vibe after the race.”
WHAT WOULD THE TROPHIES LOOK LIKE?
“Honestly, I’m not a fan of the current design so maybe we could go a bit more exotic. Maybe one of the outline of the track?”
ANYTHING ELSE?
“I would add Qualifying in the wet. Putting one lap in when you only have one opportunity between probable Red Flags, putting it on Pole would be even more special.”
