Alessandro Giusti and MP Motorsport were in good form to kick off the opening day of post-season testing, with the Frenchman ending up with the fastest time of the day.

The Williams Driver Academy member set the fastest time of the day in the morning session with a 1:30.732, and followed that up in the afternoon with a run to P2 behind teammate Tuukka Taponen.

Not only did MP sweep both sessions but all three of their drivers wound up in the top six of both segments, with Mattia Colnaghi making a good start in F3, with a P3 in the morning and P6 in the afternoon.

Speaking in the paddock afterwards, Giusti said: “It was a really good day. I feel like it's the first day of 2026 already, which is kind of weird because we are still in October of 2025.

“But it was a productive day for all three drivers and the team, I feel quite comfortable. With the little break we had after Monza, we reviewed some stuff and we improved some stuff, so feel quite happy with how things went today.”

When asked what the focus was on in Jerez, Giusti said these testing days are all about improving the car, but also his driving, as he and the team look to get ready for the 2026 season.

“We have a few things to test on the car in Jerez,” he continued. “Then I hope it will rain a bit in Barcelona and Imola, because it was not a strong point this year. So we need to improve that, but I think we are doing a good job today, so let's continue like this.

“As a driver, you need to be trying to improve things on your driving in every session, so that you can be better. But I think I did a good day, the race sim and quali sim were quite good, which was not my best part last year, it was kind of hard, so it feels good to be fast.”

Giusti showed plenty of promise throughout his rookie season with MP, achieving two podiums on his way to finishing 10th in the Drivers’ Championship.

But the plan is to improve for next year, and the 19-year-old believes he can, helped by the consistency of being with the same team for another season.

“I think it's good to stay in a team for another year,” he added. “Doing two years in the same Championship, same team, same people, so it's good consistency. I would say, we have a great lineup with one of the best rookies and a good second year, so that's good.”

Giusti and the rest of the paddock have one more day left in Jerez, and the Frenchman has one more new set of Hard tyres in the garage. So when asked what the plan was for Day two, the Frenchman says another flying lap is definitely on the agenda.

“Honestly, it's both quali and long runs,” he concluded. “We will put the new tyre we have saved in the garage and then we will do some long runs in the afternoon again, so more long runs tomorrow. But it will be exciting to put on the new tyre on the track to go faster.”
