Woohyun Shin will race with PHM Racing by Charouz for the rest of the 2023 FIA Formula 3 season the team has confirmed.

The South Korean driver joins the German outfit replacing McKenzy Cresswell, who had driven in the Spielberg and Silverstone Rounds.

Prior to his move to PHM, Shin had been competing in GB3, where his best finish of the season is P4. He also raced in the Formula Regional Middle Eastern Championship earlier in the year.

Shin said that he was eager to get started with his new team and two back-to-back Rounds prior to the summer break in Budapest and Spa-Francorchamps.

“I am excited to be racing with PHM Racing for the final three rounds of FIA Formula 3. It will be a valuable experience for me to learn the European tracks and get mileage in this car. I would like to thank Roland and the team for giving me this opportunity, and I will try my best to make the most out of the weekends.”

Team Manager Roland Rehfeld added that he was looking forward to seeing how Shin would adapt to the Championship in the remaining races.

“We welcome Michael within our PHM Racing by Charouz team for the last three rounds in this years FIA F3 Championship. Knowing Michael since the F4UAE season 2022, it will be interesting how quickly he will adapt to the F3 car and the whole environment within the team and paddock in general. Entering the championship after mid-season is never easy, especially without any seat time in a FIA F3 or GP3 car before.”

Round 8 in Budapest will kick off on 21-23 July.
