Alexander Peroni will make his Formula 3 return with Campos Racing in 2020, having recovered from the injury which prematurely ended his season in Round 7. The Australian racer will be joined by Italian Alessio Deledda.

The duo both raced with Campos in the 2019 campaign and currently make up two of just four drivers to have re-signed with the same teams for the new campaign. Peroni was forced to miss the final round of the 2019 season due to a back injury suffered during an accident in Monza.

Peroni began single-seater racing back in 2015 and scored two podiums in his maiden campaign, racing in Italian F4. He secured the V de V Challenge Monoplace the following season, before debuting in Formula Renault Eurocup, where he competed for two seasons.

The 20-year-old made the move up to F3 in 2019 with Campos and achieved two points’ finishes.

“I’m really excited to announce I will be joining Campos Racing for the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship season,” Peroni said. “I’m looking forward to starting the new season. It was a very tricky one last year.

“We showed good potential in places but something always happened to prevent us from achieving top results. But we learned a lot and that's the main thing as that knowledge can be carried over to the new season. The FIA Formula 3 Championship is unfinished business. Now we'll have another shot!”

Peroni will be joined by Deledda at the Spanish outfit. The 25-year-old initially started his career on two-wheels, before making the switch to auto racing in 2018, when he joined Italian F4.

The Italian will be entering just his third season of single-seater racing, but already has experience of several Championships, having also competed in Formula Renault Eurocup and Asian F3.

“I’m really happy to join Campos Racing one more year,” Deledda said. “The team always gave their best and I’m so grateful to them for the improvements and the experience I gained. This year I’m ready to improve my results in the races, I’m looking forward to driving again in the FIA F3.”

Campos, who still have one more seat to fill, finished 10th in the F3 Championship last season, scoring five points and will hope the continuity of sticking with Peroni and Deledda can help to push them up the table

Campos president Adrian Campos added: “The FIA Formula 3 Championship is a closely-fought series and your driver line-up must have as much experience as possible. That’s why to have Alex Peroni and Alessio Deledda with us for a second season it’s something very remarkable.

"I’m happy to continue working with Alex because last winter was a difficult time for him. But I have no doubts his motivation will bring those results he really deserves. Alessio will be also a strong part of Campos Racing. I’m convinced Alessio will make that step forward as he has worked restlessly.”
