Big waves and beach living: Hunter Yeany on his hometown

Campos Racing's Hunter Yeany takes us State-side and gives us a view of what it was like growing up in Virginia. He goes through all the best parts about living there, where to visit, eat and race.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP

"I live in Virginia Beach in Norfolk, Virginia. It’s mostly just a military town. It’s pretty nice in the summer but pretty cold in the winter. We still have all four seasons which is nice. In the summer we just go to beach, do some surfing. Sometimes there’s some nice days where the waves will get a little bit big."

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT TO SOMEONE?

"It’s very beach themed. There’s not really much elevation there, it’s just flat. There’s a lot of places to go for bike rides. It’s a chilled out place. I love surfing and then I just do some skateboarding, but no tricks, just in case.

"I learned how to surf five years ago here, it’s a nice thing to do in your downtime because F3 is so on the move and then when you go home and you have downtime, you can relax a little bit."

WHAT WOULD YOU TAKE SOMEONE TO DO IF THEY WERE VISITNG FOR THE FIRST TIME?

"We have a really nice inlet where you can paddleboard to go to breakfast and you can put your board on the dock and then go into a breakfast place. You can go surfing for the sunrise and then go skateboarding, bike riding. There’s a really nice national park there, I think it’s either a national park, or a reserve, but it’s a really nice place. It’s in a marshy area but it’s a nice place to walk.

"If you drive 30 minutes to Norfolk, you can go on one of the old military ships which is pretty cool."

WHERE WOULD YOU GO FOR FOOD?

"We have a lot of seafood, it’s mainly that. Maybe Waterman’s. They have really good seafood."

HOW MANY DAYS WOULD YOU SAY SOMEONE NEEDS TO STAY THERE FOR?

"I don’t think it would need to be long. It doesn’t take that long to see everything because it’s a small place."

WHERE CAN YOU GO KARTING?

"Nowhere to be honest. There’s not a professional karting track around anywhere but there’s a few around that are a few rental kart tracks that are pretty fun to go on. I’ve been on them with my friends but that’s about it."
