Interview
Signing off with a win and his highest points haul of the season, Logan Sargeant says he’s achieved what he came to do at Charouz Racing System after helping the team to their best finish in the Teams’ standings, although the American admitted that he doesn’t know where he’ll be driving next season.
Sargeant was a late addition to the Charouz squad, only officially joining three days before the start of the season, but he arrived with significant pedigree on the back of finishing third in the 2020 Drivers’ Championship with PREMA Racing.
Having scored just 20 points in 2019 and 2020 combined, finishing eighth and 10th, Charouz will end this year in fifth with a haul of 127 points. Sargeant has taken 101 of those, with four podiums, including a win, and is confident he’s leaving the team in better shape than when he arrived.
“It was definitely satisfying to come away with 27 points this weekend,” he said. “The result gave me a boost in the Drivers' Championship and also meant that we were able to take P5 in the Teams’ Championship. That was super important for the team.
“I think as a whole in 2021, I’ve done what I came in to do. I think we've brought the car a long way from the start of the season. We’re finally battling at the front now and I think that we can all be happy with what we have achieved.
“Hopefully, they can get a solid line-up for next year and continue the progress that we've made this year.”
After taking his first win of the year in Race 1, Sargeant was able to make up six positions in Race 3 for fourth, despite initially losing a position off the line.
“It was quite a poor start, but I got through Turn 2 clean and from there on it was about picking them off one by one,” he continued. “I think I put the car in the right positions when I needed too and that's how we found ourselves at the front.”
Asked where his future lies after three seasons in the third tier, Sargeant replied: “My future is still super unclear, so I am not too sure what is going to happen, but I'm sure you guys will know in the near future.”
