There’s plenty of time to take it easy in the summer break but before Ivan Domingues got away for his holiday’s we put some tough questions to him.
The Van Amersfoort Racing driver gives his advice on fashion, music and all things racing.
WEIGHTS OR CARDIO?
“It depends. If it’s purely weights, I prefer it but then if you’re doing interval training, then maybe cardio.”
WIN YOUR HOME GRAND PRIX ONCE OR THE MONACO GP MULTIPLE TIMES?
“If there was one, I’d say my home Grand Prix for sure! Portimão would be fun.”
BE A FAMOUS SINGER OF ACTOR?
“Actor. I would rather be Brad Pitt than Harry Styles - that kind of famous.”
WIN THE INDY 500 OR THE 24 HOURS OF LE MANS?
“I think the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I went and it was the first proper race I ever went to, back when I started racing at around eight or nine years old. I remember Brendan Hartley was there driving for Porsche. I got a picture with him and everything.”
WIN FROM POLE OR LAST?
“From pole. If you’re starting last, it means you messed up in Qualifying, so I’d rather lead from Lap 1 to Lap 20 or whatever.”
PERMANENT TRACK OR STREET CIRCUIT?
“I’d never been to a street circuit before this year, but I’ll go with street circuit just because of how cool it is. But then again, I like how permanent tracks feel when you drive them more. Once in a while a street track is fun though.”
KARAOKE OR DANCE OFF?
“Karaoke, with friends it’s more fun. Some British song I’ve heard, like Sweet Caroline, that’s a classic.”
FRONT ROW AT FASHION WEEK OR THE OSCARS?
“I don’t really want either. But the fashion week in Milan or the Oscars…I’d say Oscars.”
WIN THE TITLE WITHOUT A WIN OR TAKE MULTIPLE WINS AND MISS THE TITLE?
“Title. Big picture is all about winning the title.”
TOO HOT OR TOO COLD
“Too hot. Too cold – both aren’t the best, but I’d rather be too hot.”
BECOME A ROCKSTAR OR ASTRONAUT
“Maybe a rockstar. I don’t have a clue how either lifestyle would work but I’ll go with rockstar.”
DISCOVER A NEW ISLAND OR FIND A NEW PLANET IN SPACE
“Finding an island would be cool. Domingues Island sounds good. Ivan’s Island doesn’t sound bad either!”
EAT WITH A SPOON OR A FORK FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE
“If I had a spoon, would I still have a knife? Then spoon. I can still eat meat but I can also still have soup.”
READ PEOPLE’S MINDS OR KNOW EVERY LANGAUGE
“Read people’s minds for sure. I think it would be more useful. I think it’s more cool too.”
DRY TYRES ON A WET TRACK OR WET TYRES ON A DRY TRACK
“I think dry tyres on a wet track. It depends how wet. If it’s flooded then no. But dry tyres on a wet track is more exciting to watch. You have so much adrenaline too because you’re on the limit everywhere.”
TRAIN FOR 100-METRE SPRINT OR MARATHON
“I prefer marathon. I’m not good at sprinting and never good at school. But the marathon, I could qualify for regional races.”
UNDERDRESSED OR OVERDRESSED
“I think underdressed is comfy clothes, post-workout gym kind of clothing, I’d go underdressed. The other day I went to the gym then went straight out to dinner and it was a fancy place, everyone else was well dressed and I had a backwards cap and t-shirt on, didn’t matter, I didn’t care!”
