Jenzer Motorsport have confirmed that James Hedley will deputise for Matías Zagazeta for Round 4 of the 2024 season in Monte Carlo.

Zagazeta underwent an emergency procedure ahead of the race weekend after being diagnosed with appendicitis. The Peruvian is now recovering after the successful operation and Hedley will make his FIA F3 debut in his place.

The Briton began his racing career in karts at 11 years old before moving into the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2018. He won the series in 2019 before making his single seater bow in 2020, racing in British F4.

After earning four race victories and finishing fifth overall in his rookie season, he completed another year in the Championship before moving up to GB3 in 2022. Last year in what was his second campaign, he finished sixth overall with two wins on his record. He is currently 10th in the 2024 GB3 standings after two rounds in 2024.

Hedley said of his debut: “I got a phone call yesterday at 4pm and it’s happening. I am racing FIA F3 at Monaco. It’s a dream come true. I have to thank Gary Catt and Jenzer team for putting their faith in me and my loyal sponsors Hendy and Clive Emson and Pirelli. There’s no time for sim preparation but I will focus on the drive and give it everything. Thank you to everyone helping me get to Monaco.”

Andreas Jenzer added: “After losing Matias with an appendicitis operation time was running out. time was running out. We have previously been in contact with James regarding FIA F3. It's a jump into the deep end, but also a great opportunity for him. James has a great single seater experience in British GB3. We look forward to building up lap by lap!”

F3 wishes Matías a speedy recovery.
