Several drivers penalized following Monza Sprint Race

Following the conclusion of the FIA Formula 3 Sprint Race, several drivers have been handed post-race penalties.

Firstly, Brando Badoer has been handed a 10-second time penalty for forcing another driver off circuit.

During the race, the Rodin Motorsport driver was involved in a collision with Car 28, AIX Racing’s Fernando Barrichello, with the pair making contact on the start/finish straight after a defensive move towards the AIX driver.

After the race, the Stewards heard from both drivers and team representatives along with examining video evidence. They determined that Badoer’s defensive block on Barrichello had come too late, and that the Italian driver forced the AIX car off circuit in the process.

As a result, the Stewards applied a 10-second time penalty to the Rodin driver. With the penalty applied, Badoer finishes P23 in the Sprint classification.

Additionally, Barrichello has been handed a time penalty.

The AIX Racing driver was judged to have made an unsafe re-entry to the track in the lead up to the contact with Badoer.

As a result, the Stewards elected to apply a five-second time penalty to the Brazilian. With the AIX driver failing to finish the Sprint Race, his time penalty is converted into a grid drop of three positions.

Barrichello will serve the penalty in the Monza Feature Race.

Secondly, James Wharton has been handed a post-race penalty.

The PREMA Racing driver was involved in a collision with ART Grand Prix’s Kanato Le during the Sprint.

After the race, the Stewards heard from both drivers, PREMA and ART team representatives and examined video evidence.

They determined that Car 21 had been wholly responsible for the collision, making a sudden move right, leading to the contact with Le.

With the penalty applied, Wharton is now classified 21st in the Sprint Race results.

Next, Ricardo Escotto has been handed a time penalty for causing a collision.

The AIX Racing driver was alleged to have made contact with Car 18 of Badoer during the Sprint Race. Aftewards, the Stewards heard from both drivers, team representatives and examined video evidence.

They determined that Car 26 was wholly responsible for the contact between the two Cars at Turn 2. As a result, they elected to apply a 10-second time penalty to Escotto.

With the application of his penalty, Escotto is now classified P22 in the Sprint Race.

Finally, Gerrard Xie has been awarded a 10-second time penalty.

During the race, the DAMS Lucas Oil driver was involved in an incident with Hitech driver Woohyun Shin at the first corner that put both drivers out of the race.

Following the Sprint, the Stewards heard from both drivers and their team representatives, and examined video evidence.

They determined that Car 31 was wholly responsible for the collision, and as a result, applied a 10-second time penalty to the Chinese driver.

With Xie failing to finish the Sprint Race, his time penalty is instead converted into a grid drop of 10 places. The DAMS driver will serve the penalty in the Monza Feature Race.
