Jenzer Motorsport have secured their second driver of the 2020 campaign, announcing that Italian Matteo Nannini will join Calan Williams for the new season.

Nannini will be contesting just his second single-seater season, following on from a successful 2019 campaign, which saw him win the Formula 4 UAE title, with seven wins, 16 podiums and six pole positions.

The 16-year-old then competed in the Formula Regional European Championship, racking up a string of top-ten finishes, with a best place finish of sixth on home soil at Imola.

The Italian, who is the nephew of former F1 driver Alessandro Nannini, also entered the final round of the Formula Renault Eurocup season, claiming fifth place on his debut.

Nannini has previously tested with Jenzer in both Formula Regional and F4 and impressed enough to earn a drive in F3 this season.

“I am very excited to move to the FIA Formula 3 Championship." Nannini elated. "I have done a pre-season testing with Jenzer Motorsport and I am happy to continue my racing career with this great team. I know the level of the series is highly-competitive. Most of the circuits are new for me. But I feel pretty confident to do well”.

Jenzer finished seventh in the Teams’ Championship last season, helping Yuki Tsunoda to victory in Monza. The Japanese driver also sealed the team two further podiums, before earning promotion into Formula 2.

Team Principal Andreas Jenzer added: “Working with Matteo in testing showed us his big potential. We are very pleased to have him in our FIA Formula 3 Championship team and we are looking forward to a great season together.”
