Hitech TGR have three new drivers for their charge in 2026 and will be targeting a top five finish in the Teams’ Championship after a tough season last time around.
Eight place overall disguised how competitive the team truly was, having taken multiple wins and podiums throughout the year.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, what can the British outfit hope for with Fionn McLaughlin, Michael Shin and Jin Nakamura on board for 2026?
It wasn’t a barren year for Hitech as the team secured two victories courtesy of Martinius Stenshorne, the first coming in the Monte Carlo Sprint Race and then the Spielberg Feature event.
The team maintained their record of always securing at least one race victory in a FIA Formula 3 season, a run dating back to the inaugural campaign in 2019.
Eighth place and 90 points represents Hitech’s lowest finish and total in F3, but the team is clearly capable and can achieve a top five result, as they have done in three of the last four seasons.
This time around, the goal will be to build on their successes of 2025 and make that kind of form a more regular occurrence. Enlisted to help them achieve that are three rookies who each have their own successes to build upon.
While he will be taking part in his first full time F3 season, Shin has prior experience of the Championship courtesy of his three rounds back in 2023 in Budapest, Spa and Monza.
His experiences around those circuits will cut down his lead time in getting up to speed around there, as will his familiarity with the format and Pirelli tyres.
He is coming off his finest season in single seaters as well, winding up third in the Euroformula Open Championship in 2025, having taken four race wins and eight more podiums along the way.
Alongside him is Nakamura, who after making the jump to Europe having finished second in the Japanese F4 Championship in 2023, finished 10th in the Formula Regional European Championship in his rookie campaign.
He has already begun to work with Hitech as he’s competing in the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy series and has secured two P2 finishes and is yet to finish outside the top five.
The final rookie in the garage is McLaughlin, who has enjoyed success with Hitech already in his career. Having graduated up to single seaters last year, finishing the Formula Winter Series third and winning the British F4 title at the first time of asking, the Irish star steps up to F3 in 2026.
He too is racing in the Oceania Trophy series ahead of the 2026 F3 campaign getting underway and has been able to secure points finishes in each race so far.
All three have shown their competitiveness in other categories and will now be aiming to translate that into their latest challenge. Hitech have proven they can fight further towards the front, and will also be seeking a return to more familiar form.
