Giusti Sprint Race penalty rescinded and Wharton handed grid drop

After a successful Right of Review following the FIA Formula 3 Sprint Race in Melbourne, MP Motorsport driver Alessandro Giusti has had his time penalty rescinded.

The Frenchman was handed a 10-second time penalty in the race for what was initially believed to be a breach of Article 40.8 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations, specifically overtaking Car 3 at the commencement of the first Safety Car period.

However, after re-analysing the incident with new and significant video evidence that was not available at the time, it was found that Giusti had in fact returned the position immediately to Car 3 of Ugo Ugochukwu.

As a result, Giusti’s 10-second time penalty is rescinded. It moves the MP driver back up to P11 in the Sprint Race classification.

James Wharton has been handed a five-place grid penalty for causing a collision.

During the Sprint Race, the ART Grand Prix driver collided with Car 5 of Rafael Câmara and Car 7 of Laurens van Hoepen at Turn 11.

After examining video evidence, the Stewards determined that Wharton had been the driver wholly responsible for the incident and assigned him a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.

Because Wharton was not classified in the Sprint Race results, under Article 39.3 (b) of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations for 2025, this penalty is converted into a five-place grid drop for the next race in which the driver participates.
