Get to know HWA RACELAB’s newest driver, Matteo Nannini, a little better. We profile the Italian with a look at his biggest achievements, his racing heroes, and his favourite tracks.

NAME: Matteo Nannini DATE OF BIRTH: 10/07/2003 2021 TEAM: HWA RACELAB

FIRST RACING MEMORY

"I started go-karting when I was six-years-old. I began with a little rented go kart and I enjoyed it so much that my father brought me one, which is where it all started. We got home and my mum was like 'no, that is too dangerous!”

RACING STYLE

“I am quite smooth. I’m not the type of driver to rush an overtake at the first corner, the races are very long, especially in this Championship. It is also very important to manage the tyres because of the high degradation, so I think this style helps me in this Championship and allows me to be more competitive towards the end of the races.”

BIGGEST RACING ACHIEVEMENT

"I would say that this year is my biggest achievement because I have gained so much experience that I can use in the future. I was able to get a podium as well and I am also proud to be one of the only Italian drivers here.”

RACING HERO

"I have quite a few racing heroes. There is my uncle, Alessandro Nannini, who unfortunately had to stop racing after an accident. Niki Lauda is another. These two drivers were very determined in what they wanted to do and didn’t let anything stop them.”

FAVOURITE TRACK ON THE F3 CALENDAR

"Silverstone and Spa are really cool tracks. I really enjoy Abu Dhabi, although it’s not on the F3 calendar. Being Italian, I like Monza as well. Until this year, I had never actually raced at Monza, I’d only ever tested there.”
