James Wharton: My Ultimate Driver

We continue to ask our drivers to build their ultimate driver and the next one to do so is James Wharton, and the Australian makes some bold choices.
After picking some former teammates and his compatriot, the ART Grand Prix driver also builds his perfect racing team at the end.
INTELLIGENCE
“George Russell. It seems like he has a lot more smarts than most of us, so for sure George.”

WET WEATHER DRIVING
“Probably Max Verstappen. I think he's the best that's ever been in the wet to be honest, you have to talk about Brazil every time.”
BEST QUALIFIER
“I might say Kimi Antonelli actually. I've been teammates with him, I've done laps of my life and still didn't outqualify him. He's so, so fast.”

CARRYING SPEED IN THE CORNERS
“I think I would pick Oscar Piastri, just because he has such a smooth driving style, but I'm not there yet. I push the entries quite a bit, but Oscar has a really nice driving style.”
BRAVEST/RISK TAKER
“Can I put myself in there? Yeah, I'd put myself. Not divebombing people but taking a bit more risk than most people.”

SMOOTHEST DRIVING STYLE
“Already said Oscar for this one. Actually, I'll put one F3 driver, Rafael Câmara, my old teammate. He is quite smooth.”
OVERTAKING ABILITY
“I'm going to go with myself, 100%, definitely. I did outside of T6 at the Red Bull Ring last year, and I passed three in one corner once. But probably Red Bull Ring T6 around the outside, I think it was on Zachary David back in FRECA.”

WOULD YOU ADD ANYTHING ELSE?
“I think I'll go with the chilled personality of another former teammate of mine, Ugo Ugochukwu. He doesn’t say much the whole season. He says stuff but not a lot.”
BUILD YOUR IDEAL TEAM
TEAM PRINCIPAL: "Jock Clear - He is such a nice guy, one of the most amazing people I have worked with."
DRIVER: "Max Verstappen and I."
CAR: "I think the Mercedes 2020 car. It's amazing."
