Trident have retained Canadian racer Devlin DeFrancesco for the 2020 campaign, announcing that the 20-year-old from Toronto will join Lirim Zendeli at the Italian side for the new season.

The team have opted to stick with DeFrancesco following a solid first season with the team in F3, where he impressed the Italian outfit with his chemistry and work within the garage, as well as the continual growth that he displayed out on track.

DeFrancesco said: "I’m happy to be sticking with such an incredible team – starting with the Team Principal Maurizio Salvadori, my engineer Andrea Tesi Mancini, who’s become very close to me, and also Giacomo Ricci and Rocco Berardi, my number one mechanic who’s also unbelievable.

“I’m looking forward to a good year, we found some good stuff during the Valencia tests so I’m sure we can translate that into good results in 2020."

DeFrancesco was the 2017 Spanish F4 Champion, and also finished third in the Euroformula Open Championship in the same year. Since then, the Canadian has gained further experience in GP3 and European F3, prior to his year in F3.

The 20-year-old will be looking to help Trident to further success in their second season of F3 and add to their tally of four podiums and one win from 2019, which sealed them fourth in the Teams’ Championship.

Team owner Maurizio Salvadori added: “I am very satisfied for having extended the relationship with Devlin DeFrancesco in F3 for the 2020 season. Last year, Devlin showed great improvement and I am very optimistic about the coming season. I am convinced that the experience gained in 2019 will allow him to harvest the good results that today are certainly within his reach."
