Van Amersfoort Racing have announced that reigning Euroformula Open Champion Noel León will make the step up to FIA Formula 3 with them next season.

The 18-year-old joins the third tier after claiming the 2023 Euroformula Open title, with seven wins and 16 podiums to his name.

Speaking about his promotion to F3, León said he’s enjoying his time with the Dutch team and is looking forward to continuing the work they have made. Having already gotten behind the wheel for the VAR in post-season testing, the two top 10 times in Barcelona are a positive sign going forward.

"Being part of Van Amersfoort Racing has been a joy so far," said the Mexican driver. "We did the post-season tests and Macau together which was a positive experience and great preparation for the upcoming season. I cannot wait for the season to start!’’

León made his single-seater debut in 2018, competing in one round of the NACAM Formula 4 Championship with a two-race appearance the next year. A full-season follow-up campaign in 2019-20 saw him take the title, achieving seven wins, 10 pole positions and 15 podiums.

2021 saw him secure both the Formula 4 United States Championship and NASCAR Challenge Series Mexico titles, before moving to the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine for the 2022 season.

VAR Team Principal Frits van Amersfoort added: "We're delighted to welcome Noel León to our team for the upcoming FIA F3 season. ‘’Noel showcased himself as a talented and driven racer. His previous single-seater experience and determination will help him in preparing for a competitive 2024 season."
